From singing with jazz bands to maintaining a busy schedule as a freelance jazz bassist, Ernst is truly a musician who does it all. Described by the Naperville Sun as a "double-talented" jazz bassist and jazz vocalist, Katie Ernst has impressed audiences nationwide with her multifaceted performances. Katie has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, the Chicago Cultural Center, the Naperville Jazz Festival, and numerous jazz clubs throughout the East Coast and the Midwest.

At Katie's 2007 concert at the Birch Creek Performance Center in Wisconsin, audiences were "surprised and delighted" by her simultaneous playing and singing. The Door County Advocate praised her passion for performing, coming away "enchanted by the performer who clearly loved the music, slow-dancing with her stand-up bass."

Through master classes and performances, she has had the privilege to perform with such jazz greats as Jon Faddis, Matt Wilson, Mulgrew Miller, and Harold Jones. She has opened for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the Yellowjackets, ragtime legend Reginald Robinson, and world-class jazz vocalist Dee Alexander.

"She's doing all the right things musically," says Faddis, past leader of the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and current Artistic Director of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, "I hope to jam with her again soon." Although concentrating on double bass at the collegiate level, Katie is an accomplished, award-winning vocalist as well. In 2007, she received a coveted Downbeat Award for her singing and was featured in Downbeat Magazine's June issue.

Katie is currently attending the Eastman School of Music as a Rogers Scholar, studying classical double bass with James VanDemark and jazz bass with Jeff Campbell.
