Ann Mitchell is a professional musician/vocalist with over 20 years of experience in various vocal music venues. She is a dynamic performer who always strives to captivate an audience.
Ann Mitchell Jazz specializes in the rich vocals of the timeless classics that span the Jazz era from the 1930’s-1950’s with unbeatable energy and heart. The quartet features memorable standards from composers such as Cole Porter, Sammy Cahn, Johnny Mercer and more. Ann Mitchell Jazz is established on the summer concert and festival circuit in the Rochester and outlying area. Her extensive list of appearances have included Corning Wine and Jazz Festival, New York State Fair in Syracuse, Rochester Strong Museum’s Making American Music series, Canandaigua Waterfront festival, News 10 NBC - Today Show, Rochester, NY and Rochester’s Warm 101 Fm - Tony and Dee in the Morning. Ann Mitchell Jazz is also among the many well known musicians featured on recent Rochester benefit holiday recording, JOY! CELEBRATE UPSTATE, (12/06). City News music critic had this to remark about Ann Mitchell Jazz’s JINGLE BELLS - “The Ann Mitchell Jazz Quartet give JINGLE BELLS some righteous jingle and bop.”
Ann Mitchell is an experienced, energetic musician who has performed throughout the Rochester area for many years. Mitchell began singing as a free lance vocalist at the age of 16, studying voice under Rita Lowe and earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre from SUNY Brockport. After a successful run in a series of stage performances, Ann found her niche in jazz performance as the vocalist for the former big band, Brass Menagerie. Following that, Ann became the featured singer for the Bob Ames & Co. combo before recently establishing her own jazz quartet. Ann has had the pleasure of working with musicians Paul Gaspar, Andy Calabrese, Dave Arenius, John Nyerges and David Spinner, to name a few.
Ann’s creative passion has been influenced by the many memorable women vocalists such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Rosemary Clooney, Patti Page, Doris Day and more. Ann continues to pass on the legacy that has been left by these amazing women through her original program, REMEMBER THE LADIES -- Those Fabulous Females of the 40’s & 50’s!. Her vocal versatility extends to the subtly of a private ceremony. Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks hired Ann as her wedding vocalist four years ago and once again for her recent office Inauguration. Ann’s warm and welcoming voice can be heard on Ever the Winds, a benefit album for Alzheimer’s Research. Ann recorded and produced the album with her daughter, up and coming classical vocalist Kerri Lynn Slominski, on V-Rae Records in 2003.
"At present, I am thrilled to be working with pianist Tom Cometa. He is a vocalist's dream as a musical partner. I appreciate his attention to detail in preparing music for each individual performance."
